Mrs. Barkley’s recipe for one loaf, obtained from Mrs. Walker

Dissolve 1 yeast cake in ¼ cup of warm water. I take a spoon each butter + lard, in ¾ cup scalded milk. add
1 teaspoon of salt
1 table spoon of sugar. Let milk cool before adding yeast (lukewarm)
Sift – 3 cups of flour. You may need more. Bake at 400 F.
